On Marco Parente website [www.marcoparente.it]
you won’t
simply find whole songs to be downloaded, but rather
INDIVIDUAL
AUDIO
TRACKS
from
songs
spanning
the entire opus of the singer-songwriter. A free resource
for manipulation and re-contextualization.
This is a liberation of the elements of a musical piece: of the information
both used in, and cut from, the final mix.
With this action Marco
Parente, Lorenzo
Brusci - Timet
and Giovanni Artignano – Stolen
give expression to a dynamic concept:
Music that is open, malleable, that is born to be transformed, that lends itself
to the creation of new musical stories.
This is an invitation to a dialogue via manipulation,
to the fast and intense circulation of ideas.
We believe the world to be a web of individuals who
not only make, but speak and live music. There are
too many obstacles to the spread of the many forms
of music of our planet.
There exists a conventional market for music.
But we would encourage the circulation of a greater currency through musical
citation.
The approach of Open Music is not only a choice of
mode of communication, but also for the quality of
music in the world. Music begets music. The processes
of variation, transfiguration, and the de-contextualization
of elements of the works of others are fundamental
to the creation of music, as amply evidenced in the
history of music by Bach, Mozart, Mahler and many others.
